You can help save the florida keys reefs..!! This 20 acre parcel with a 17 acre saltwater lake was recently marketed as a private lake for personal use. It may still be used for that. This property cannot be developed...!!!! No home, no commercial use. However in recent months researchers from florida international university have been studying the growth of spider crabs that thrive on algae. The intent is to raise spider crabs to place on our reefs to eat the algae and save the reefs. If you are an organization or associated with an organization interested in saving the reef, this may be the property for you. Spider crabs are also known as caribbean king crabs. You can search the internet to see the ecological value of these crabs. The following are statements drawn from previous research and findings of brandon sosa of fiu that will be used in his dissertation chapter for his phd, titled ''quarry based mariculture of the caribbean king crab in support of reef restoration'' these crabs graze on algae, helping corals thrive. They can enhance coral restoration and support reef health. Reefs need grazers to control algae. Scaling up crab stocking could improve long term reef managment.
